I’ve been chasing a cranberry red balloon Jumping and racing through town all afternoon Across the boulevard, past the junkyard And the dog as it barks Down alleyways, under skyways Through the pigeons in the park
I just can’t grab the string of the cranberry red balloon I’m beginning to think it’s easier to rope the moon On my tiptoes, then the wind blows And it’s lost in the trees Then it sails high through the blue sky As it’s riding the breeze
But the sun’s going down on the cranberry red balloon I’ll be gone too long if I don’t catch it soon
I finally caught it, the cranberry red balloon And I’ve got it at the top of my bedroom But it just hangs there and I just lay here Staring out at the day Think I’ll open up my windows And just let it float away
I’ve been chasing a cranberry red balloon Jumping and racing through town all afternoon Across the boulevard, past the junkyard And the dog as it barks Down alleyways, under skyways Through the pigeons in the park
